Photographers who photographed women before, during, and after orgasm explain why they chose to participate.

A photographer has explained why 2,000 women volunteered to take part in his boundary-breaking series, documenting their facial expressions before, during and after orgasm.

Marcos Alberti’s ideas O project It came out in 2017 after the viral success of his earlier series. wine projectwhich captures people’s facial expressions before and after drinking a few glasses of wine.

Inspired by how powerful authentic reactions are, he decided to explore other human reactions through photography. But this time he chose a subject that is rarely discussed publicly.

“Usually when we see women experiencing orgasm, it happens in real-life situations or through explicit content,” the Brazilian photographer told LADbible.

“In both cases, there is a shared sexual experience between the subject and the viewer.”

How were photos of women’s orgasms taken?

Alberti spent about two hours getting to know each woman and putting them at ease.

He then photographed them using personal massagers, and the series showed “the slow and sometimes rapid changes in each woman’s face as they reach and recover from orgasm.”

His first photos of the women often showed them tensing up, but when they started masturbating in the second photo, they were visibly relaxed and absorbed in the moment.

The third photo captures the moment of climax, and the fourth photo captures him grinning in the afterglow.

The photo setup allowed Alberti to see only their faces.

“There was a panel with a small opening, and we placed a camera there, pointing it only at the participants’ faces,” he said.

“The women were seated behind the table and covered with cloth, so you couldn’t see anything but their expressions.”

Why did women want to participate?

Alberti believed that the women who chose to participate wanted to challenge taboos about female pleasure, and not just out of curiosity.

“At the time, I posted on Facebook that I was going to Singapore to work on a new project focused on women’s pleasure. Around 2,000 women applied to participate, which was incredible,” he added.

“But once we started talking more openly about what the project actually was, many decided not to proceed. In the end, we chose 24 women who truly understood the concept and felt comfortable with it.”

Alberti said the group “agreed to participate because we saw it as something bigger than just a photo shoot.”

“They believed in the purpose: to challenge perceptions, normalize the conversation around female pleasure, and help start a more honest and healthy dialogue on the subject,” he explained.

“There was also a shared feeling that this project had the potential to have global resonance. wine project. ”

When Alberti first shared this idea, many immediately thought it was something pornographic. He believes this highlights the lack of alternative ways this subject is usually portrayed.

He said he “separated physical and emotional expression by focusing solely on the face, turning what is commonly considered sexual into something observational, almost scientific, yet very human.”

After the photo shoot, two of the subjects asked if they could leave the project because they were “concerned about the potential professional repercussions,” a request Alberti said he “fully respected.” In the end, photos of 22 women were shared.

“What’s most interesting to me is presenting a completely different perspective on something very familiar and challenging the way people see and interpret it,” Alberti said.
